Competition Prep

is for dogs and handlers that are ACTIVELY competing or preparing to compete in Obedience trials. Topics will vary week to week based on student need. Heeling and engagement are reinforced through a variety of exercises. In addition to developing the obvious precision required for qualifying scores, the trainers, as well as class participants that are experienced competitors will share some of the less obvious "tricks of the trade" that lead to higher scores and placements in peformance dog sport compeitions. This is an On-going class and may be joined at any time with instructor approval.

Intro to agility

During an Agility trial the handler guides their K9 teammate through a series of obsticles such as jumps, weave poles, teeter-totters, and elevated dog walks. This class will get you started in this exciting, fast paced sport! Agility requires a combination of speed, accuracy and, most importantly, teamwork! Basic exercises such as targeting & sending; turning; verbal directionals; and beginning weaving will be introduced to you and your dog. Classes are held at our outdoor agility field, but can be moved indoors due to weather. This class is for dogs that have completed a Beginner Pet Dog class or with the approval of an instructor. This is an 6 week class.

Advanced Agility

This class is for dogs and their human teamates that have a good understanding of agility obsticles and basic course work. This class builds on the foundations developed during the Intro Agilty training. The goal of this course is to improve your handling skills and to prepare you and your dog for competition. During this course you'll learn how to analyze your course to run it with speed and accuracy! You'll also learn how to better communicate with your dog, guiding it from obsticle to obsticle successfully. This class is for dogs that have completed the Intro to Agilty class and are currently trialing or preparing to trial. This is an On-going class and my be joined at any time.

Introduction to Rally

A relatively new addition to AKC dog competition, Rally is a fun and less formal cousin of traditional obedience trials. The team of one dog and one human follow a series of signs, completing the assigned skill found on each sign. Rally can be used as an introduction to other companion sports such as obedience or agility, or can be a stand-alone pursuit of its own. Rally trials are significantly more relaxed than obedience trials and can be great for teams where one or both members are a little shy or unsure. Interactions with the judge are minimal allowing the team to work together to navigate the course with lower anxiety than other competitions. During this fun course you and your dog will hone your obdience and communication skills, build a better working relationship and learn new skills along the way. This is an On-going class and my be joined at any time.

Advanced Rally

This class is targeted at those teams that have successfully completed the Rally Novice certification and are looking to compete at the Rally Advanced and/or Rally Excellent levels. This course builds on the foundations developed in the Intro to Rally class, introducing more advanced skills. As with all of our courses emphasis is on the bond between teammates, dog and handler. This is an On-going class and my be joined at any time upon completion of the Intro do Rally class or with instructor approval.

Conformation Class

This class is designed for those folks with show quality purebred dogs and a desire to compete in AKC and/or UKC conformation dog shows. The goal is to prepare both handler and dog for competing in the breed ring. Students learn the ins and outs of ring procedures specific to their breed and learn to modify their presentation based on their dog. This is an On-going class and may be joined by any qualifying dog and any time.
